Abstract

This book is intended to help newly graduated chemists, particularly organic chemists, at all levels from bachelors to post-doctorates, find careers in the North American pharmaceutical industry. It will serve as a practical, detailed guiedbook for job seekers as well a reference work for faculty advisers, research supervisors, development officers, employment agents, and personnel managers in the industry. The book gathers in a single volume the fundamentals of getting an industrial job as a medicinal or process chemist, and covers all aspects of a chemist's job--scientific, financial, and ma

Abstract

The definition of the chemical and isotopic composition of the groundwater present in argillaceous formations, which are considered as potential host rocks for radioactive waste disposal, is crucial for establishing their barrier properties. Therefore, a critical review of the relevant literature on the current methods applied to extract water and solutes and on the various approaches to the interpretation of their results was commissioned to the Laboratoire d’hydrologie et de géochimie isotopique (Université de Paris-Sud, France). The present document provides a synthesis of available extraction methods, assesses their respective advantages and limitations, identifies key processes that may influence the composition of the extracted water, describes modelling approaches that are used to determine in situ porewater composition, and highlights, wherever possible, some of the unresolved issues and recommendations on ways to address them.

Abstract

Contains detailed and comprehensive annual data of gas supply, demand, trade and consumption by end-use sector for the OECD countries individually and for the OECD regions. Trade data are reported extensively by origin and destination. This database also contains some major series for world-wide historical gas demand and supply. Users can build statistical tables based on specific variables, view and print reports as multidimensional tables or graphs, and download statistical data in IVT, XLS and CSV formats for use with Beyond 20/20's statistical software, Microsoft Excel or other programs.

Abstract

The goals of this book are to develop an appreciation for the richness and versatility of modern time series analysis as a tool for analyzing data, and still maintain a commitment to theoretical integrity, as exemplified by the seminal works of Brillinger (1981) and Hannan (1970) and the texts by Brockwell and Davis (1991) and Fuller (1995). The advent of more powerful computing, es pecially in the last three years, has provided both real data and new software that can take one considerably beyond the fitting of·simple time domain mod els, such as have been elegantly described in the landmark work of Box and Jenkins (1970). The present book is designed to be useful as a text for courses in time series on several different levels and as a reference work for practition ers facing the analysis of time-correlated data in the physical, biological, and social sciences. We believe the book will be useful as a text at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An undergraduate course can be accessible to students with a background in regression analysis and might include Sections 1. 1-1. 8, 2. 1-2. 9, and 3. 1-3. 8. Similar courses have been taught at the University of California (Berkeley and Davis) in the past using the earlier book on applied time series analysis by Shumway (1988). Such a course is taken by undergraduate students in mathematics, economics, and statistics and attracts graduate students from the agricultural, biological, and environmental sciences.
